Clallam Night to Shine is a completely volunteer event.

It takes an incredible amount of people to host Clallam Night to Shine and make our guests feel incredibly special.

Below are some of our volunteer opportunities. Don't hesitate to make a suggestion based on your skills and interests. And thank you for joining our team.

Who can volunteer?

Those who are 16 and older, and can pass a background check. You must have your background check information filled out by Jan 11. Everyone needs to fill out a background check, unless you have volunteered during previous NTS proms and have a background check on file.

What volunteer options are there?

Before NTS prom night:

Sponsor/Recruitment

Connect with the business community for Sponsor opportunities, in-kind donations. Work with food team leaders with restaurant/food donations.

Communication/Phone

Help keep our team informed, answer questions, make telephone calls, answer phone calls.

Formal Wear

Help with alterations as needed, and help during our Formal Wear shopping days.

Set Up

Help decorate and execute event set-up of the facilities for this event.

Food Service

Assist with food preparation, and/or set-up food and beverages.

During NTS prom:

Buddy Each guest is paired with a “buddy” for the evening. The buddy acts as the host for the night to help the guest take part in the fun activities and enjoy the prom experience with the guest. You will be paired with your guest when the doors open and guests begin to arrive. Once you get paired up, you will receive a Buddy Card that will give you a few details about your guest to help you get to know each other. Then you are off for a fun night and the opportunity to get to know a new friend.

Food Service

Assist with food preparation, and/or set-up food and beverages.

Paparazzi, Red Carpet

Cheer, celebrate and welcome participants like honored guests and celebrities.

Guest Check In

Greet guests and give them their name badges. Assist any unregistered guests.

Buddy Check In

Greet volunteers assigned as buddies and give them their name badges.

Volunteer Check In

Greet volunteers and direct them to their team leader.

Coat Check In

Greet guests, take their coats, label them, and hang them. As guests leave, ask for their names, and retrieve their coats.

Medical Team (EMTs, ARNPS, MDs, Paramedics, etc.)

Respite Room

Assist in the Respite Room, creating a pampered atmosphere for family/caregivers.

Hair and Makeup

Assist set-up team with the salon area. Pamper each guest with touch-ups to hair and makeup.

Shoe Shine

Assist set-up team with the shoe shine area. Welcome each guest to a seat for a shoe shine.

Flower Team

Help guests with wrist corsages and boutonniere.

Dance Floor

Monitor the dance floor and the perimeter to make sure there are no “wallflowers”. Invite them to dance and engage with them.

Sensory Team

Assisting guest who may become over-stimulated.

Photography / Video

Taking photographs and creating video during the event.

Security

Parking Team/Greeters

Assist with direction of traffic flow and parking for the evening. Help direct both guests and volunteers.

Floater Team

Constantly “float” around the main event space, kitchen, restrooms, and outdoors to assist anywhere an extra hand is needed.

Karaoke Team

Assist with the karaoke equipment, encourage the guests to sing, and help guests enjoy themselves.

Gift bag/Photo Takeaway Team

Set-up and manage gift bags and photos and help each guest select one to take home.

After NTS prom:

Tear down

Take down decorations, tables, chairs, etc. and clean up the event space.

I’ve signed up. Now what?

Your team leader will contact you at the beginning of December (if you sign up before that time) to introduce themselves and help you connect with the team.

I don’t know what to do! Will there be training?

Yes. You will be invited to attend training. Your team leader(s) will work with you.

On the night of the event, how do I check in as a volunteer?

Our team will be there to meet you. Check in times will be provided during training sessions.

  • You must check in before you can serve in your area and you must have your background check information filled out by Jan 11. Everyone needs to fill out a background check, unless you have volunteered during previous NTS proms and have a background check on file.
  • If you are younger than 18, your parents must sign a waiver for you to volunteer.

Where should I park?

Please save the parking at the Vern Burton Center for our honored guests. You may park across the street. A parking team will be there to direct you.

Will there be food provided for volunteers?

Hot and cold snacks will be provided in the volunteer area.

Where should I put my personal items when I’m at the event?

You can leave your personal items in your vehicle, but we cannot guarantee its safety. Please leave as many items at home as you can.

What should I wear?

Dress according to the volunteer position you will be working in. Buddies are asked to dress in semi-formal to fully formal attire.
